Out of a Job

Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia when I woke up this morning, is retiring from politics after a party caucus in the past hour selected Kevin Rudd as new Labour leader, and therefore the new Prime Minister (after some formalities tomorrow), three months before the federal election.  Both Rudd and Gillard agreed to retire from politics if they lost this go around (the two have faced off three times before, with Gillard triumphing to first take the seat from Rudd and then defending successfully).  It is strange that in the course of a few hours someone went from Prime Minister, eyeing the upcoming election against Tony Abbott of the Liberal Party to out of politics forever.

Anyways, the State of Origin game is about to kick off and we are settling in with a meat pie, mushy peas, and mash - how Australian of us.

Go Blues!
