Green Domestics

Wednesdays are my days for catching up at midweek.  With no class until 4:00, I had plenty of time to (finally) undertake laundry.  I am fortunate to have a washer in my terrace, though it is a tad expensive to use ($2 a load), but there is no dryer.  I have been told by Aussies that this is not just a Uni thing, and that, while many have dryers, they are seldom used; rather, people hang everything on clothes lines.

Well, this is the first time in my life that I have hung laundry on a line, and I am not sold on the concept.  While I am all for environmental responsibility, the city is not necessarily the best place to leave clean clothes outside.  If I were in the mountains I might be more keen on the idea, but when I went to retrieve my (semi-)dry clothes off the line they tended to smell a bit city-esque.  Also, clothes dried in the sun tend to get a bit crunchy... While I will survive the next four months, I don't think I will be switching to drying clothes on a line.

In the middle of the laundry, I met Tiffany at one of the campus eateries for a lunch sponsored by the Jewish student organization.  We enjoyed some bagels, drinks, and a bit of music before she headed off to class and I came back home to bring in my laundry and do a bit of reading for my tutorial at 4:00.

My tutorial for the American history class was interesting.  15 or so students in a room with a teaching assistant discussing the readings for the week.  I was (not surprisingly) the sole American, and the furthest along in my Uni education, and by far the most versed in all things related to the states.  The discussion we had was interesting, and the time flew by - before we knew it we had to head to the 5:00 lecture session.  I am excited as the semester moves forward to get to know more of the students in the tutorial.  Most of them hail from Sydney (Australians tend to live at home for Uni) and are in their first year of study.

Tomorrow I have a day long symposium for architecture studio - I hope it is as interesting as they have made it sound.  I just glanced over the agenda, and the speakers seem like they will be engaging.  Not to mention we get tea breaks... some things I will never get tired of!
