Back to the Work Week

I am happy to report that three days in I still really, really enjoy work.  After some morning meetings and reviewing some stuff from last week I got the opportunity to spend the afternoon on site with a few planners in the Rocks.  It is a rare day when a new building is being built in Sydney’s oldest, most historic neighborhood, and it was amazing to be part of the group to walk around with the architects and hear about all of the nuances as they pushed for our office’s support as they move forward to present the project to Council (who has final say in the matter).  The project, a boutique hotel, will unite two existing terrace houses with two very early warehouse buildings with a modern building replacing an infill project from the 1980s.  We had the opportunity to walk through the historic buildings and get a glimpse of what few will ever get to see.  The views from the rooms will be spectacular, and will come at a cost of probably upwards of $1000 a night.  As we made our way back to the office via train, they asked my opinion on a few things and we had a good discussion about some various architectural things.  I look forward to work again tomorrow when I will again be out in the field surveying more sites to continue my zoning work from last week.
