We are sitting at the Cairns airport waiting for our flight back to Sydney.  The airport, literally one large room with 22 gates, is the smallest I have ever been in.  With not much in the way of dinner choices, Jason and I just had Hungry Jacks (Burger King in America).

Since I wrote this morning, we spent much of the day sitting in coffee and gelato shops, and a bit of the day wandering around Cairns.  Highlights include Cairns Central (the mall in Cairns which also happens to be the train station), and actually, that is about it.  Cairns seems to be a popular place to go not because of the city itself, but due to its proximity (relative) to other things to do in north-central coastal Queensland.  The day was rather soggy, and we grabbed lunch at a small stand on the Esplanade (fish and chips for me).

This afternoon we spent time at a gelato shop followed by a coffee shop where I got an Anzac biscuit (soft and delicious), while we counted down the time to return to the hotel.
It has just been announced our flight has been cancelled for the night – time to sort that out!
