New to Uni
I spent the afternoon talking with Hannah and her boyfriend
(who also goes to school in Sydney, but not at the Uni) Joe. We discussed a lot about American and
Australian cultures, sports, and anything else.
Around 6:30 Joe left to return to the city and Hannah and I struck out
across Newtown to explore and procure groceries. This being her first time away from home and
having to cook for herself, she was in search of some help – I think over the
next four months we will be doing a lot of cooking! We bought groceries and made the 15-minute
trek back to the flat loaded with a wide assortment of foods, though we were
highly limited by our cookware selection and lack of oven. It’s going to take some creativity, and we
decided to start small, so we ended up with pasta and salad tonight, but
promised to be more adventurous soon. We
spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other and talking a lot
about America (she’s never been, and I am the first American that she has every
really talked to).
Hannah is from the bush and promised a trip out there at
some point to go kangaroo hunting! She’s really lovely and I think we are both
looking forward to the semester.
Now it’s time to get ready for some sleep and begin to put
together my room a bit.
